There is no easy way to get and keep a beautiful and healthy lawn, but you may find the following information helpful and beneficial. Just like a three-legged stool, proper lawn maintenance is supported by three equally important factors; homeowner, environment and lawncare provider.
1. First and foremost, the homeowner needs to be involved in making sure the lawn is properly mowed and watered as these are the two most important factors in the health of your lawn.
2. Second, nature has to provide the necessary growing conditions. Problems may arise whenever temperature, precipitation and/or humidity are not in the optimal range for a healthy and growing lawn. Additionally, when lawns are under stress due to environmental conditions, they are more susceptible to weeds, insect and disease problems.
3. Finally, your lawncare provider needs to provide and properly apply the products. The six-application program is designed in such a way that the applications build on each other. When less than all applications are received or when an application is skipped, this allows for weeds to appear and the lawn may also lose color. Following are a few more recommendations that may help with improving and maintaining your lawn:
- Provide your lawn with 1-2 inches of water per week;
- Water early in the morning, not in the evening;
- Water the day after each application, if possible;
- Mow at 2½ to 3 inches - do not mow too short;
- Do not mow more than 1/3 of the blade off at one time;
- Do not bag the clippings - it's better to mulch, if possible.
